R4 DS Not saving any games

Hi All,
My sisters R4 ds cart is not saving any games what so ever. There .savv files but when trying to play the games again not previous data is there.
Is this a common problem, has it been set up wrong???
I have recently downloaded the latest firmware but no luck. :(
Please please help.

r4 ds not working
You should also note that you can delete your save file by pressing B, SELECT and UP on the screen.
This must be done to successfuly save a new file onto the game cartridge.
